The short version
Safefind for Pets exists for one job: when someone finds your lost pet, we get them home as fast as possible. That means we hold the smallest amount of information needed to make that work — your contact details, your pet's profile, and records of when their tag has been scanned. We never sell your data and we never share it with anyone outside the people listed below.
Who we are
Safefind for Pets is operated by Stimz (UK company). We are the data controller for the information described below. You can reach our privacy team at privacy@safefindpets.com.
What we collect
From pet owners:
- Account details — email address, password (stored as a one-way hash)
- Contact details for scan alerts — name, email, mobile phone
- Pet profile — name, species, breed, photo, video, microchip number, vet contact, and any free-text fields you fill in
- Optional public return contact — phone and address that appear on the scan page if you choose to include them
- Order details — when you buy a tag, your shipping address and the payment confirmation Stripe gives us (we never see your full card number)
- Alert preferences — whether you want email, SMS, or both
From finders (anyone who scans a tag):
- Location — only if you tap to share it. We use the browser's standard geolocation prompt; you can deny it without losing the rest of the flow
- Optional message and contact details you choose to include
- Technical details — IP address, browser user-agent, time of the scan. Used for anti-abuse and to help us keep the service working
What we do with it
Owner data is used to manage your account, show your pets' profiles when their tags are scanned, deliver scan alerts to your email and phone, and fulfil tag orders.
Finder data is used for one purpose: relaying your scan to the pet's owner so they can come find you. Your location, message, and contact details are included in the alert email and SMS sent to the owner. We don't sell it, share it with anyone else, or use it to advertise to you.
Anonymised scan counts may be used to monitor service health (how many scans the system is processing). These aggregates don't identify individual pets, owners, or finders.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of carefully chosen sub-processors. Each of them processes data on our behalf under a data-processing agreement that meets UK GDPR requirements.
- Supabase — database hosting and authentication
- Vercel — application hosting
- Resend — sending scan-alert emails to pet owners
- Twilio — sending scan-alert SMS to pet owners
- Stripe — processing payments for tag purchases
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or insurers. We will only disclose information to law enforcement when legally compelled to do so.
How long we keep it
While your account is active, we keep your pet profiles and scan history so you can refer back to them. If you delete a pet, that pet's data is removed within 30 days.
Order records are kept for 7 years to meet UK accounting and tax requirements (HMRC). Account login records are kept for 90 days for security audit purposes.
You can request full account deletion at any time by emailing us — see the section below.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Have your data deleted (the "right to be forgotten")
- Receive a portable copy of your data
- Object to specific kinds of processing
- Withdraw consent for anything you previously agreed to
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@safefindpets.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies — the ones that keep you signed in to your account. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or analytics cookies that profile you.
Children
Safefind for Pets isn't intended for use by people under 13. If you're a parent and you think your child has set up an account, please email us and we'll remove it.
International transfers
Some of our sub-processors store data on servers outside the UK (primarily in the EU and US). Where this is the case, the transfers are covered by the UK's adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses approved under UK GDPR.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if our practices change. If the changes are significant we'll email account holders before they take effect.
